Sometimes some of us come to a point in our life when we have no idea what we want to do as a career. This was me, for 25 years of my life! I had some inkling of the type of attributes I wanted to have put towards my career, but I had a hard time pinpointing what exactly it was I wanted to do. Then all of a sudden a lightbulb went off! I was like, are you serious, Ashley? How did it take you this long to figure it out!?! Don’t get me wrong, I have a long way to go, but who doesn’t? Your dream career is ever changing and you learn things along the way. So if you’re trying to come up with unique ideas for what to do as a career read my list of reasons for why you should be a blogger. Blogging might just be up your alley!
- You are an introvert
You are one of those people that spends so much time in your head, coming up with new ideas, so many that you have a hard time remembering them all unless you write them down!
2. You are an extrovert
I know, I just said that if you’re an introvert you should be a blogger, but honestly you can be either! It’s all about how you portray yourself through your blog and media. Some people are really comfortable creating videos, live chat groups, etc., while others are more comfortable creating text type blogs. It’s all up to you to find out what makes you feel comfortable in your own skin (or blog, I should say).
3. You have a love for learning
Technology, blogs, social media-all of these are always changing! You have to want it enough to put yourself out there. You want to research what would make an amazing post. You want to join webinars on how to effectively spread the love of your favorite topics. You want to read blogs to become more familiar with other people’s styles to get a hunch on what your own style would be like while expanding your connections. You have to love learning.
4. You are creative
Do you like to web design? Do you like to create photography? Do you like to write? The amount of options in blogging are endless! You got a great idea for a post? Create it!
5. Passion for writing
Okay, so, this is your spare time you are working with here. This is not your college composition I class. This is your online journal! Or as I’d like to call it now, my online life! This has to be up your neck of the woods of jotting down ideas and expanding on them to share with the world! It can be intimidating at first, but if it’s something you love you will not hesitate to hit that post button (unless you are jumping up and down out of excitement).
6. Online business
Some people create a blog to advertise what they create out of a hobby. This could be crocheting, painting, building, photography, you get the picture… It’s a good way to describe how you do what you do, if you’re a DIYer or if you simply want to expose people to your work of art as a means to making a living.
7. Enjoy reading
Well, you don’t have to LOVE reading, but it helps a lot! Many bloggers actually get their ideas of what to write about based on other things they see, read, or hear about. It’s all about taking that idea that’s already been used, but spicing it up with your own flavor.
8. You’re a team player
Honestly, blogging really is an independent work force, BUT with the exception that you can work with others, whether it be as an online business partner or simply sharing each other’s work to get your work out there through social media. It doesn’t have to be a hermit’s life. You can search for blogs, read through ones that are in your niche, comment, share, connect to get ideas! It’s that easy.
This one kind of goes hand in hand with having a passion for writing. You have to have some kind of drive to want to blog. It’s not a get-rich-quick sort of career (I can attest to that-haha!), but it’s not as difficult as you think. You have to figure out what it is that makes you want to be a blogger. This will help propel you through those days where you really don’t feel like writing. Not. One. Single. Word. My motivation, besides the obvious that I’ve always loved to write, is that I have that compassion to help others-which brings us to our final indicator!
10. Positive energy
It’s a no brainer. No one wants to listen to negative Nancy. You gotta be positive! Be a glass half full kind of person. People want to follow someone who is going to encourage and inspire them! Be THAT person! 🙂
So how do you measure up? Did any of these traits resonate with you? Do you feel like you’re up to being a blogger?
